The purpose of my promotional video is to create awareness
of a once iconic building, The Co-op Hall. The Hall was once upon a time the
place to be in the Nuneaton area on a Friday and Saturday night. Its stage had
seen the likes of The Beatles, The Who, The Kinks and even The Rolling Stones.
Because of these great bands playing there and also the great history of the
Hall people thought that the building should have been listed. Unfortunately
The Hall got demolished recently to pave way for a big supermarket chain. This
decision caused a lot of controversy in the town as the building meant so much
to the local people. A documentary that has been funded by the National Lottery
is being made to capture the memories of the people who attended the dances and
events there.
My productions purpose and meaning is to make people aware
of the issues so that it increases awareness and therefore may help similar
events occur in the future to other historical buildings. Another example of
this is a video on the Internet that is a time lapse of the old Birmingham town
hall to show how some beautiful architectural buildings were demolished to be
replaced by corporate buildings. This is the wider issue my promotional video
of the Co Op hall will discuss. How often cultural and historical buildings
will be demolished and therefore their history lost in way of commercial
projects. My promotional video will discuss and promote this issue.
These are some screen shots taken from the Birmingham time lapse video. These clearly show the drastic change which took place around Chamberlain Square. The beautiful buildings we see in the first picture were ripped down for these hideous corporate buildings. Ironically the horrible buildings are now intact listed yet the original ones weren't.
